The War on Drugs has Failed (again)

<font face="Times New Roman">U.S. leads world in substance abuse, WHO finds
Americans more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol, despite tougher laws

"Countries with looser drug laws have lower rates of abuse, the
researchers report in the Public Library of Science journal PLoS
Medicine."

Perhaps criminalizing drugs makes them more appealing to those youths who want to rebel against society. Perhaps treating drug use as a normal part of society will put the reality and problems of drug abuse into the light for people to better understand, rather than secluding it to the shadows of society & prisons. Perhaps people can be trusted to make smart decisions in life regarding drug use. Perhaps criminalizing and punishing drug users, especially non-violent users, does more harm to society than good. It certainly costs more; $80 billion/year wasted on a failed War on Drugs. If my family only had a fraction of that, we'd be set for generations, too bad the Government is wasting it prosecuting a failed, unjust War funded by the very citizens whose Rights are violated by it. I think that by legalizing the use of drugs, the cartels & criminal organizations founded upon sale of illicit substances will no longer be able to support themselves from black market drug sales. Also, I think people would then be better able to make more informed decisions about drug use since it will be brought into the light of society. This way people can see for themselves the results of irresponsible drug use, rather than believing what they see in movies and the media.
